The master's hand

Maestraa takes its name from maestra, a master of her craft. We are a team of professional portrait artists, and every portrait we make is drawn and painted entirely by hand.

The hardest thing to paint is a likeness

A face can be correct and still not be the person. Our artists work until it is: the weight of an eyelid, the set of a smile, the way light falls across a cheek.

Each artist works in the medium they have mastered, whether oil, acrylic, watercolour, pencil or charcoal, and your portrait goes to the hand best suited to it.

Why I started Maestraa

We take thousands of photographs and look at very few of them. A painted portrait is different. An artist spends days with a face, noticing what a camera passes over, and what comes back is something a family keeps.

I started Maestraa to bring that craft to anyone with a photograph they love. I gathered professional portrait artists into one atelier and built the service around them: a clear price, a sketch to approve before any paint is applied, progress you can see, and a portrait that arrives safely wherever you live.

Every portrait leaves us painted by hand and signed by its artist. That's the standard I hold this team to.

How we keep the standard

Proven before they join us

Every artist first completes a paid test portrait, judged on likeness, finish, communication and timekeeping. Each then works in their own studio and is paid fairly for every piece.

Three checks on every portrait

We review the composition sketch before you see it, check the finished portrait against your photos in daylight, and inspect and pack it ourselves.

Private by default

Your photos are used only to paint your portrait, and seen only by your artist and the team who check it. We never show your portrait publicly without your permission.

Made to last

Artist-grade oils and acrylics on primed canvas. Charcoal, graphite and watercolour on heavy acid-free paper. Your artist signs the portrait, and it arrives with a Maestraa certificate of authenticity.
